AMSTERDAM — A bomb hoax forced the evacuation of the Dutch Parliament on Wednesday as the explosives disposal squad was called in shortly after midday to inspect a suspect package.

Police evacuated the parliamentary complex and nearby buildings. They also sealed the area off to the public, newspaper De Telegraaf reported.

The bomb disposal squad EOD brought in x-ray technology to determine the contents of the package.

It was subsequently found to contain a kitchen timer.

A large number of ambulances and police had been seen around the parliamentary complex. It was not immediately known where the suspicious package was found.

The Dutch Parliament is located in The Hague.
