THE HAGUE - The government says a Dutch woman kidnapped and held for several days in Afghanistan has been freed by her captors.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Rob Dekker says she is safe and well after being freed Friday morning. He says she has been taken to an undisclosed safe location. Dekker declined to give more details, citing security issues.

It is believed that the woman, Joanie de Rijke, was kidnapped last Saturday. The kidnapping was kept out of the media for security reasons.

De Rijke is a journalist with Belgium's P-Magazine. The magazine could not be reached Friday for comment.
