The Hague – A seven-year-old girl kidnapped from her school in Ede on Wednesday is most likely to be taken by her father, reports de Telegraaf on Thursday.

On Wednesday, witnesses reported seeing Katja Leendertz being "shoved into a car, obviously against her will", while playing in the courtyard of her primary school in the morning, said police spokeswoman Annabelle Friesen.

Police issued a nation-wide alert for people to be on the lookout for Leendertz, who is described as 1.3 metres tall, with long, blonde hair in a ponytail, and wearing a dark red jacket.

The girl was taken off in a grey Opel Zafira. The car has since been recovered by police.

According to de Telegraaf, about 260 children currently listed by police as missing were taken by their parents.
