AMSTERDAM — Meteorology bureau KNMI issued a weather warning for the evening peak hour on Tuesday, alerting commuters to stormy weather moving in from the south-west of the country from about midday.

The De Bilt-based KNMI said heavy rains and storms will persist, with a chance of hail and wind gusts of up to 60kmh. The storms will start clearing in the west from about 4pm.

KNMI said heavy rains could be recorded in short periods and that motorists in particular might encounter problems, news agency nu.nl reported.

It is uncertain if the storms will occur simultaneously with whirlwinds due to the fact that they are unpredictable. A tornado caused severe structural damages to houses in Weesp and Muiden on Monday night.
