THE NETHERLANDS - Dutch climbers Wilco van Rooijen and Cas van de Gevel arrived back in the Netherlands late on Thursday evening after their expedition to climb K2, the world's second highest mountain, ended in disaster.
The climbers were welcomed by family and friends at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport. The other members of the expedition have also returned home.
The Dutch pair was among several climbers taking part in separate expeditions that were struck by an avalanche which killed 11 people and left the other team members stranded in the open in freezing temperatures.
Van Rooijen and Van de Gevel both suffered severe frostbite and were treated at a local military hospital before being flown to the Pakistani capital Islamabad.
