AMSTERDAM – The public prosecution department (OM) is investigating whether the call-in game shows aired by commercial broadcasters are not in fact illegal gambling games, the Volkskrant reports

The investigation follows on two reports that the ministry of justice has filed against providers of these game shows.

The justice department did not want to disclose which broadcasters are being investigated. Up to 15 hours of these games a day are broadcast in the Netherlands on RTL 4, SBS, NET 5 and Tien. The broadcasters say they have not been informed of any reports against them. The OM has called in the fiscal and economic investigation service to review the reports.

The reports were filed on 18 September and 12 December 2006 by the Project agency on games of chance for "offering gambling games without the required permit." The project agency is part of the ministry of justice and says it has received "roughly" 100 complaints about the games.
