Judges survive bias challenge at Wilders trial
The judicial authorities in the Netherlands have turned down the request for a retrial made by Geert Wilders’ lawyer in his trial on charges of incitement to hatred and discrimination, and group defamation.
On Twitter, the populist Freedom Party PVV leader was cynical. “The bigwigs are protecting each other once again,” he said. His message ended with the words: “The circus continues”.
His trial proper began at the start of October 2010. That first trial ended on 22 October when Mr Wilders’ star lawyer Bram Moszkowicz successfully demanded a retrial. His challenge to the new set of judges trying the case has now been disallowed.
