Johan Cruyff back at Ajax
Football legend Johan Cruyff is back at his old club Ajax after an absence of more than 23 years.
An extraordinary meeting of the shareholders has appointed him to the supervisory board. For the next four years he will sit on the Amsterdam club’s new board, together with chairman Steven ten Hage, Edgar Davids, Paul Römer and Marjan Offers.
Much to the dismay of some shareholders, Cruyff was the only member of the new supervisory board who failed to show up at the Amsterdam ArenA, possibly one reason that his appointment was not approved unanimously. The other board members did receive the shareholders’ full support.
The new board will keep tabs on the club’s directors.
Ajax are looking for a new general director to replace Rik van den Boog. Cruyff favours Tscheu La Ling but the other board members do not approve.
