It's Poetry Day in the Netherlands

Today it's Poetry Day in the Netherlands and the Flemish speaking part of Belgium.

Hundreds of schools, libraries, bookshops and publishers are organising events under the auspices of Poetry International and The Flemish Reading Foundation.

This year's theme is "Night". According to the organisers, reality changes at night. "The all-revealing clarity of day makes way for a shadowy, more subdued pallet at night," said a spokesperson.

Dutch author Remco Campert has written a collection of 10 poems for this year's publication: An old sound.

The 81-year-old writer injured his shoulder in a fall at the weekend and is therefore unable to appear at this evening's presentation in Rotterdam.
