Dutch police said Wednesday they arrested an Italian on suspicion of money-laundering at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport after 460,000 euros in cash was found strapped to his waist.

"We detained a 58-year-old Italian man carrying 460,000 euros" (554,000 dollars) in banknotes stashed into seven plastic bags and hidden under his belt and clothes, airport police spokesman Robert van Kapel said.

He was stopped on Sunday before he could take a flight to Madrid and did not provide a credible explanation of where the money came from, the spokesman added.
