Istanbul mourns Schiphol crash victims

A memorial service has been held at Turkish Airlines' headquarters in Istanbul for the five Turkish nationals who died in Thursday's crash at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.

ISTANBUL --Their remains arrived at Istanbul's Atatürk Airport on Friday evening.

The five will be laid to rest later on Saturday. Four US citizens also died in the crash. Eighty people were injured, one of whom remains in a critical condition.

One survivor has announced he intends to team up with other survivors to claim compensation. To this end, he has set up an website and hired a lawyer.

Others have taken steps to file individual claims.

On Friday Turkish Airlines pledged to pay eur EUR 50.000 in compensation to the relatives of the nine passengers who died in the crash.

The airline said people who were taken to hospital will receive between EUR 5.000 and 10.000.
