AMSTERDAM — An Irishman caused the temporary evacuation of passenger areas in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on Friday morning when he claimed he had a bomb.

Frustrated that he could not the details he wanted from the information desk in the airport, the 23-year-old shouted that he had a bomb in his luggage.

He left his bags in the KLM check-in area and ran off. He was quickly apprehended by security staff who then ordered the evacuation of the Arrivals hall and the Departure area 2 while the baggage was examined.

The all-clear was given after 20 minutes when no device was found.

The military police were holding the man on Friday afternoon pending a decision by the prosecution service (OM) on whether to charge him.
