Iran: The Netherlands supports terrorism
The Netherlands supports terrorism and is responsible for the deaths of 12,000 people, said Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast on Tuesday.
Mr Mehmanparast accused the Dutch of hypocrisy for drawing the attention of human rights groups to the January execution of Zahra Bahrami. He was referring to the European residency of members from radical militant group Mujahedin-e-Khalq or the People’s Mojahedin of Iran.
‘Countries pretending to be civilised defend cases related to crimes and drugs smuggling and eventually turn them into human rights issues in order to put political pressure on Iran’, he said.
Ms Bahrami, an Iranian-born Dutch citizen, was convicted on drug trafficking charges in Iran. The 46-year-old woman was accused of smuggling 450 grams of cocaine and 420 grams of opium. Her hanging and secret burial has stirred condemnation from rights activists as well as governments worldwide.
It has been suggested Ms Bahrami was arrested as a political prisoner following her involvement in 2009 protests disputing the Iranian elections and that she was tortured to death rather than hanged.
While Mr Mehmanparast has insisted she was executed for a drugs offence, the Dutch government has frozen all diplomatic contact with what it called a ‘barbarous regime’.http://cdn.radionetherlands.nl/data/files/ramin_mehmanparast.jpg
