THE HAGUE – The 6-year-old boy that drowned in the Zuiderpark in The Hague on Tuesday had been playing in a group of nine children. Two women were supervising them. The fire brigade announced this on Thursday. The police are going to investigate the drowning.

Police were alerted on Tuesday afternoon by two girls who were unrelated to the victim. They told police that the boy had gone missing. Divers from the fire brigade found the lifeless body of the child at the bottom of the pond 90 minutes later.

"We are still left with many questions about how this accident happened," said a spokesperson for police. "That is why we are going to investigate the case further. It is possible that the two women supervising the children could be prosecuted in criminal court, if they made mistakes. But it would be premature to draw that conclusion at this stage."
