AMSTERDAM – Education workers union AOb is calling for an investigation into violence at schools after four stabbings this week at schools throughout the country. State secretary for Education Marja van Bijsterveldt said she was shocked at the series of incidents.

The state secretary does not want to consider stricter safety measures at schools until she has received a report on the stabbings from the educational inspectorate. The inspectorate has been in contact with the affected schools.

A 14-year-old student was stabbed in Amsterdam on Thursday, and in Oss a 16-year-old is suspected of stabbing an 18-year-old boy.

On Wednesday a 16-year-old boy in Naaldwijk was wounded in a stabbing at his school. And on Tuesday 11 people were arrested after a man was stabbed on the premises of the Regional Training Centre in Rotterdam. One of the suspects was carrying a firearm.
