Internet shopping popular in Holland

18 October 2007, AMSTERDAM - Nearly 45 percent of all articles purchased via the internet by Dutch nationals were linked to travel products, according to a report by the umbrella organisation of the home shopping industry Thuiswinkel Organisatie.

AMSTERDAM - Nearly 45 percent of all articles purchased via the internet by Dutch nationals were linked to travel products, according to a report by the umbrella organisation of the home shopping industry Thuiswinkel Organisatie.

Dutch nationals spent some EUR 830 million on travel products in the last six months, the report said.

In total, Dutch purchases on the internet increased by 38 percent in the first six months of 2007, bringing the volume of the entire internet market in the Netherlands to EUR 1.8 billion.

Other popular products purchased on the internet are consumer electronics, insurances and clothing.

The Dutch are the fourth biggest home shopping market in Europe after Britain, Germany and France. In 2006, Dutch nationals spent EUR 2.92 billion on goods and services bought on the internet.
