A Dutch nurse who was wrongfully convicted to a six year jail sentence has said she will set up a fund to help people who are victims of a miscarriage of justice.

Ms Ina Post was jailed in 1987, but a review of the case found on Wednesday that there was no conclusive evidence which proved beyond reasonable doubt that she had killed an 89-year-old woman. The conviction was quashed.

The Public Prosecutor has acknowledged that it was wrong and will not appeal the review findings.

Ms Post, who is 54, was awarded damages. She said on a TV talkshow on Wednesday that her lawyer knows of 21 cases which may involve innocent convicts, whose relatives lack the financial means to appeal the verdict. A fund which is to be established by Ms Post will help people to fight wrongful convictions and prove their innocence.
