INDONESIA - Internet providers in Indonesia have restored access to YouTube and similar websites.

The government blocked the sites earlier this week to stop people from viewing Fitna, the anti-Islam film produced by Dutch MP Geert Wilders. The authorities argued that the film disrupts religious and social unity at a global level.

However, the blocking of the websites generated so much protest that the providers have decided to restore access.

The internet release of the film has led to fierce protests by Muslims in Indonesia. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has declared Geert Wilders persona non grata.
