The manager of the hospitals in IJsselmeer allegedly allowed operations to be carried out in non-sterile air operating theatres.19 September 2008
IJSSELMEER -- The manager of the hospitals in IJsselmeer has been suspended following revelation that operations in the hospitals were conducted in non-sterile air operating theatres.
The manager, Rodrigues Pereira, allegedly allowed operations to be carried out even though he knew the air was not sterile enough.
An interim manager is now being sought.
On Wednesday, all operating theatres in Lelystad and Emmerloord hospitals were closed. On Thursday, the obstetrics departments were also closed.
Without a sterile operating theatre available in the event of an emergency, the hospital supervisors felt it would be irresponsible to permit deliveries.
