BEIJING - Olympic hosts China may be bothered by low attendance and nervous over security and media freedom, but the International Olympic Committee is delighted with the smooth running of the Beijing Games.

"I have never seen things go so well so soon," said IOC Olympic Games director Gilbert Felli on Wednesday, the fifth day of competition of the Olympics which run until August 24.

Felli spoke of "very happy athletes" in most aspects of the Games ranging from accommodation to transport and venues. Felli spoke highly of the volunteers and also expressed satisfaction over excellent TV ratings.

Felli also praised the good cooperation with the organizing committee BOCOG, after some pre-Games hiccups over internet access.

The IOC had announced earlier in the week that the meetings with BOCOG would be held only every other day because the Games were running well.

These meetings are normally daily and were only held less regularly in the final days of previous Olympics.
