Klaas Jan Huntelaar is the first Dutch player to join the list of topscorers in European championship qualifying campaigns. The 28-year–old striker scored 12 goals in just eight matches.

Only Northern Ireland player David Healy ever scored more goals: 13 in 12 qualifiers ahead of the 2008 European Championship.

Croatian Davor Suker scored 12 goals ahead of the 1996 European Championship, but needed two more matches than the Dutch striker.
