German football club Schalke 04 has capped a turbulent season by grabbing the national cup with an overwhelming 5-0 victory over a woeful MSV Duisburg, not least owing to a brilliant performance by Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Huntellar scored twice in Berlin’s packed Olympia stadium and prepared the match’s fourth goal, netted by Jose Manuel Jurado.

The other two goals were scored by Julian Draxler and Benedikt Höwedes.

Huntelaar previously twice won the Dutch cup with Ajax.

This season a knee injury prevented him from playing for most of the second half of the season.

After a disappointing 14th place in the Bundesliga, Schalke 04’s cup victory means it will again join the Champions League next year.

This year it got as far as the semi-finals, in which Manchester United beat them 0-2. cl
