AMSTERDAM – House prices in the Netherlands will rise 4.25 percent this year nad 3.25 percent in 2008, according to predictions from the Rabobank. The bank published its quarterly report on the Dutch housing market on Thursday.

The researchers base their prognosis primarily on the increased consumer confidence and the persistent shortage of homes.

Starters on the housing market are in a worse position than ever because of the rising house prices and interest rates.

"It is particularly bad news that the costs of newly built residences have increased considerably and that developers are becoming less willing to invest," the Rabobank says.
