Hotel and catering sector predicts 20,000 job losses
The financial crisis will lead to fewer workers being needed, say Dutch unions and employers in the hotel and catering sector.5 November 2008
THE NETHERLANDS - Unions and employers in the hotel and catering sector expect the financial crisis will lead to the loss of at least 20,000 jobs.
Two months ago, the sector first sounded the alarm and said that fewer workers are needed than expected due to the economic conditions.
At present, about 300,000 people work in hotels, restaurants and bars.
However, despite the sharp drop in employment, the sector still has problems finding and keeping suitable workers. Both the unions and the employers say the turnover of staff is too high.
