AMSTERDAM – Robbers held a 40-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter hostage in their home in Amsterdam-Zuidoost for several hours on Thursday, police announced on Friday.

The three men entered the building on the Voorthuizenstraat at about 2 pm. They were apparently not happy after a search of the house did not produce anything they were after. The robbers then forced the woman to call her other, adult daughter in The Hague.

She was told to bring an unknown amount of money. The police got a report of the hostage situation at about 4 pm and headed to the scene. The perpetrators managed to escape – without any money – before the arrest team arrived.
