Homeless athletes swing into action
The Hague’s homeless will be defending their city’s honour on Saturday in a home game in the next round of the Dutch Homeless football Cup.
There is a lot at stake for the home team, which last year won the national title and went on to represent the Netherlands at the Homeless World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. The rules state that players who win the cup are barred from taken part the following year, which is why a new team is now playing for The Hague.
The Hague players are facing more oposition than ever, as a number of new cities have joined the competition. This season’s Dutch champions will eventually travel to Paris to play in the Homeless World Cup against talented fellow homeless from other countries.
