AMSTERDAM – Jewish organisations gathered at the Hollandse Schouwburg in Amsterdam on Sunday to commemorate the holocaust. Mayor Job Cohen was one of the speakers at the event.

He quoted writer and holocaust survivor Abel Herzberg, who once wrote: “There were not six million Jews murdered; there was one murder, six million times.”

Cohen spoke in memory of the 60,000 Dutch Jews who were rounded up at the Hollandsche Schouwburg and deported during World War II.

The Israeli ambassador also spoke at the ceremony. Youth lit torches and two minutes of silence were observed.
