THE NETHERLANDS - The Holland bridge on the A6 motorway between the Flevoland polder and Weesp has reopened for lorries.

The bridge was closed in 2007 for repairs after it failed to meet safety standards. Lorries either had to make a detour or take a ferry.

Lorry drivers heading towards Amsterdam have been able to cross the bridge for the last three months. Now they can travel in both directions, but only in the right-hand lane and there are speed limits for cars.

Trade organisations EVO and TLN say the closure of the bridge cost the sector EUR 45 million.
