Holiday bookings down

For the first time in years, the number of holidays booked has dropped.

THE NETHERLANDS - The ANVR, the association of Dutch travel agents and tour operators, says a recent survey has revealed that from January to the beginning of April, 13 percent fewer holidays were booked than in the corresponding period last year.

The association also found that flying has become less popular, with 21 percent fewer package holidays booked than in 2008.

It says that not only are people looking for a holiday closer to home and taking fewer holidays, but they are now also waiting longer before booking a holiday.
