High-speed link not ready before 2010

The transport ministry will study the possibility of temporarily installing an existing safety system on the high-speed rail link (HSL).

THE NETHERLANDS - The track has been ready for two years but is still not operating due to problems with a new mandatory European safety system.

Belgian and French rail operators have been insisting for three years to temporarily use an existing safety system.

The ministry expects the service will not start before 2010.
