High-earners told to take legal action against one-off wealth tax

Tax advisors are recommending companies with staff earning more than €150,000 go to court to fight a newly-introduced 16% crisis tax demand.

The Financieele Dagblad on Wednesday quotes  tax advice firms Ernst & Young and KPMG Meijburg as saying a court case against the one-off extra charge has a good chance of success.

The extra tax is paid by companies not staff. The experts say the charge can be fought against in court because it was approved after companies had paid out their 2012 bonuses. This conflicts with European law.

The aim of the tax is to generate €500m for the treasury.
