AMSTERDAM — Guus Hiddink, currently employed as the Russian national football team coach, owned a house in Achel, Belgium in 2002-2003. By having a Belgian residence address, the Dutch football celebrity paid much less tax on his income from training the national team of South Korea, Het Algemeen Dagblad reports.

C.Loos representing the prosecution said on Tuesday that Hiddink had concealed an income of 3.5 million euros from the Dutch tax authorities during this “fraud period.”

The prosecution also mentioned Hiddink’s alleged attempt to have a hotel in Antwerp write out a fake receipt for him to make it appear as if he had been staying there.

”I wonder if Hiddink thinks he is above the law”, Loos said.

The brains behind the plot was Hiddink’s accountant. The prosecution demanded fourteen months in prison for him.

The verdict is expected on 27 February.

Russian fans have advised Hiddink to “ask for political asylum in Russia”.
