ROTTERDAM – Algemeen Dagblad editor Paul Hovius and two independent experts that conducted the newspaper's annual herring taste test have received death threats. The newspaper reported this on Wednesday.

Hovius has been working on the test with experts Aad Taal and Martin Gouda.  The results of the herring taste test will be published in the newspaper this Saturday.

On Tuesday morning the AD received two anonymous letters containing death threats against the three if the herring taste test is published. The newspaper reported the letters to police.

The results of the test were presented to herring sellers last week to give them a chance to respond.
