Henk Grol has won silver in the World Judo Championships in Tokyo. It is the second time the Dutch judoka has come second in the world championship competition. He also lost in the finals of the last two European championships. He had hoped to follow in the footsteps of late Dutch Olympic champion Anton Geesink.

The Japanese paid tribute to the Anton Geesink, who died two weeks ago. The giant Dutchman won the respect of the Japanese when he beat Japan’s Akio Kaminaga 46 years ago in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

This is the first large competition in which Henk Grol has managed not to injure himself during a fight. It is because of injury that he was unable to prepare for the competition properly. Nevertheless the 25-year-old was disappointed by the defeat.
