In the Dutch premier league, FC Twente has failed in its attempt to oust PSV from its lead position. The ruling champion from Enschede lost its away match against SC Heerenveen with a rather dramatic 6-2.

Heerenveen took the lead after two goals by Oussama Assaidi. Both times, Nacer Chadli scored the equaliser for FC Twente. Viktor Elm made good use of a pass by Assaidi to score the third goal for the Frisians, and Luciano Narsing scored from yet another pass by Assaidi, bringing the score to 4-2. In the final minutes of the game, Oussama Assaidi scored his third goal of the match, and Mika Väyrynen utilised a penalty to bring the final score to 6-2.

Rotterdam derby Feyenoord won its home game against Excelsior in what proved to be a difficult match for both teams. Feyenoord player Luc Castaignos scored the only goal of the game. Feyenoord coach Mario Been really needs these points: his team rose to a 13th place in the rankings as the result of its fifth victory. Excelsior remained in 16th position.

FC Groningen FC Groningen has scored an important 2-0 victory over AZ. Tim Matavz scored both goals, bringing Groningen its ninth home game victory in a row. AZ played the better game, but for the first time in this competition made no goals. As a result of Groningen's victory, there is now only a one-point difference between it and the number two in the rankings, FC Twente. In the final phase of the match, both teams had to make do with ten players: FC Groningen's Tim Sparv received a red card after a heavy tackle, and AZ defender Hector Moreno was sent away after a heated argument between a number of players just before full time.
