Heavy snow disrupts traffic

Heavy snowfall in the east and south of the Netherlands is seriously disrupting traffic. Lorry drivers have been warned not to take to the roads in the south if they can possibly avoid it and busses have stopped running in the Province of Limburg.

Between 5 and 15 centimetres of snow is expected to fall in the next few hours in the Provinces of Brabant, Limburg in the south, Gelderland and Overijssel in the east of the country. The Dutch motoring association ANWB has warned drivers to expect icy conditions during the rush hour. However due to the Christmas holiday, roads are not expected to get very busy.

A number of roads have been partially closed for emergency repairs.
