Health care sacred for Dutch

Dutch people are extremely resistant to any cutbacks in their health care system, according to research conducted by national newspaper . They are also against any reduction in the police budget.

But the research shows that the Dutch would rather give less money to development aid and see the defence budget cut. They are not averse to reforms on mortgage tax relief.

The survey, carried out by marketing research bureau TNS Nipo, asked participants where they’d cut back if the budget had to be reduced by 35 billion, 18 billion and 5 billion euros.

Today is Budget Day, or " - which is always on the third Tuesday of September in the Netherlands. In line with tradition, Queen Beatrix will address a joint session of the lower and upper houses of parliament in the afternoon.
