HAARLEM – One in four managers has noticed alcohol abuse on the work floor, according to a study by professional journal Management Team. Most incidents are related to Monday morning hangovers.

"In these cases there is still alcohol in the blood from the evening before. If you want someone to work well, you have to make sure their blood alcohol level is not higher than 0.5," says Ronald Knibbe on the website of Management Team.

"You cannot deal with this on an isolated basis, you have to introduce a policy. For example by forcing someone to take the morning or day off on a Monday," Knibbe says. He is a professor of social epidemiology of drug and alcohol abuse.
