Hague couple arrested in Italian drugs case
Police in The Hague have arrested a Dutch couple wanted in connection with an Italian drugs investigation. The couple turned themselves in at a police station on Monday.
According to Dutch newspaper AD, the woman is thought to be at the centre of a major cocaine network run by the Italian Mafia.
Last month, police raided two homes in The Hague in connection with the case but no suspects were found. One of the addresses belonged to the acting ambassador for Suriname, prompting Dutch apologies to Suriname’s foreign minister.
The couple are currently being held and will appear before the public prosecutor on Tuesday. This hearing will determine whether they will remain in custody until their extradition request is considered.
