AMSTERDAM — Haarlemmermeer, which includes Schiphol Airport, was the fastest growing municipality in the Netherlands between 2002 and 2005, according to new figures published by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

The Almere suburban area is also growing fast, the CBS said.

Haarlemmermeer's population grew by about 11 percent to 131,816 residents, while Almere saw an increase of 10 percent to 175,007. Both districts feature a lot of newly-built properties, popular with young families.

The CBS said the cities of Utrecht, Amersfoort and Zoetermeer also experienced relatively fast growth.

Dordrecht, Haarlem, Rotterdam and Maastricht experienced drops in their population figures.
