TERNEUZEN - Police in Terneuzen have arrested the captain and first officer of a freighter from Cyprus for allegedly ramming and sinking a yacht off the coast of the town of IJmuiden.

The Royal Netherlands Rescue Service saved the four people sailing in the yacht after bad weather prevented rescue by helicopter.

Radar images later helped police pick up the trail of the freighter.

Although traces of the collision were clearly to be seen on the bow of the ship, the captain said that he had noticed nothing out of the ordinary.
