A C-130 Greek airforce plane was Thursday on its way to Tripoli to collect three Dutch soldiers held by the Libyans after a botched attempt to free civilians, a Greek Defence Ministry source said.

The plane left an airbase near Athens and was due to land in Tripoli around 2030 GMT, the source said. It would then return to Athens.

The operation was agreed by Tripoli following a request from Greece earlier Thursday at a meeting in Athens between an envoy of Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi and Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Dollis, the source added.
