Grandma forgotten and left behind on KLM plane
Flight attendants’ folly left an 87-year-old wheelchair-bound woman waiting in a plane for over an hour.Schiphol – An 87-year-old wheelchair-bound grandmother was left behind on the plane for over an hour after everybody else had disembarked, reports de Telegraaf.
Sylvette Landrein, who does not speak a word of Dutch, was assisted when getting on the plane in the French city of Nantes.
However, upon arrival at Schiphol, KLM cabin personnel forgot to help her off the plane and Landrein was left in the plane for more than an hour before help came her way.
Her daughter-in-law Sonja Rein Country said: "It's absolutely outrageous. My aged mother-in-law was alone in the plane for more than an hour ".
Country added she only managed to see the elderly woman two hours and fifteen minutes after the plane landed.
Country said she was told to be patient when she grew increasingly concerned at her mother-in-law’s disappearance.
"I enquired at the KLM desk, but was told to be patient".
The airline also lost Landrein's suitcase.
The family who lodged a complaint with Air France-KLM in Nantes and Amsterdam has since received an email in French apologising for the mistake but feels it is inadequate.
KLM called the incident "regrettable" and has been in touch with the family.
Meanwhile, a KLM spokeswoman said: "Research shows that the aircraft was only at Schiphol for 40 minutes.”
