Government unprepared for cyber attack

The Dutch government is unprepared for a major cyber attack. According to a review of government practices released Wednesday, a lack of central coordination makes the Netherlands particularly vulnerable.

The evaluation involved a scenario where computers worldwide were infected by a virus. They found that Dutch government systems would come to a stand-still and confidential data would be disclosed. The review also found difficulties in establishing the extent of the damage, and a tendency towards long meetings rather than quick intervention.

In a letter to the house, Deputy Justice Minister Fred Teeven has suggested the government hold cyber attack preparedness exercises.
