Gas leak in Rotterdam

8th September 2011, Comments 0 comments

A cloud of natural gas escaped from a liquid gas import terminal in Rotterdam on Thursday. Police halted shipping temporarily in the Tweede Maasvlakte, the new port area where the container terminal is located, because of the risk of explosion.

No casualties have been reported and shipping has resumed.

The Tweede Maasvlakte development is still under construction and the new LNG terminal is not yet officially in use. It is due to be opened by Queen Beatrix at the end of this month.
