Gang members' siblings to be placed in foster homes
Police in The Hague say they are considering a number of new measures as part of their continuing efforts to crack down on the city’s youth gangs.
One of the ideas under consideration is removing gang members’ siblings from their parents’ custody to prevent them following in the footsteps of their criminal brothers and sisters.
The measure would be carried out by the justice ministry in cooperation with youth care and local council authorities.
Current legislation already allows for placing brothers and sisters of gang members under police supervision.
The Hague police now want to take this approach one step further, to further reduce the likelihood that siblings of gang members decide to pursue criminal careers of their own.
