Belgian unit of French power group GDF Suez will invest EUR 1.2 billion in Rotterdam biomass and coal energy plant.

Paris -- Electrabel, the Belgian unit of French power group GDF Suez, said on Monday it will invest EUR 1.2 billion (USD 1.68 billion) in a biomass and coal energy plant in Rotterdam.

The Dutch 800 megawatt plant will produce 25 percent less carbon dioxide, believed responsible for recent global warming, than a conventional unit, Electrabel said.

The new plant should be completed by 2013, it added.
