UTRECHT – On Wednesday 10 October the restaurant Joy4You is set to open in Utrecht. People can enjoy a free meal at the restaurant. It will be open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Families and single people alike will be able to eat for free.

Organiser Bertuel Smit says the group of poor people in Utrecht is growing. "We expect 40 to 50 people a night. Sponsorship has been found for everything that is necessary for the restaurant to operate. "The plates, the cutlery, etc., we got it all from companies. The daily shopping for the meals is sponsored as well. Butchers, supermarkets, and for example a vegetable auction will provide us with products." The restaurant will be run by 34 volunteers.

It is not the case however that people who simply don't feel like cooking will be able to come for a free meal. People can register via the charitable foundation Stichting De Burcht-Armenzorg. After an interview it will be determined whether they are eligible for the free meal. Smit says the intention is to provide people with additional help as well. "Just giving food is not a solution. During the dinners the guests will be offered services. Courses for applying for a job or on making a budget for instance."
