Free holidays for low earners

14th March 2011, Comments 0 comments

As of Saturday, Dutch minimum wage-earners who can't afford a holiday can apply for a free holiday from the - the Vakantiebank - an initiative to sponsor holidays.

Applicants have to meet a number of strict conditions, including insufficient financial resources to go on holiday in the next few years. Applicants with chronic health problems can also apply for a free holiday.

The holidays can vary from a weekend to a longer trip, either in the Netherlands or abroad. The offer cannot be passed on to another person or exchanged for cash.

The initiative is sponsored by a camping equipment store and a number of travel organisations.
