AMSTERDAM — Many visitors come here primarily for the free or the almost free food samples generously handed out by the manufacturers. Knorr prepares chicken wok meals, Valess meat substitute manufacturer grills burgers for one euro each.

Although the show is expensive for the manufacturers, they like to come in contact with the consumers here, Het Algemeen Dagblad writes.

At the entrance, Milka gives out its new cookies. Stalls with latest sauces, spreads, baking mixes, chips, cheese and chocolate bars follow.  At the “beauty care plaza”, everyone is trying to get their turn at a free manicure and make-up. There are also fashion and home decoration sections.

“We discovered the trade show six years ago”, says one visitor. “I took more bags every year, This year I’ve got a bag with wheels. Everyone laughs at me, but hey – I don’t have to miss out on any goodies this way.”

The Household Trade Show (Huishoudbeurs) will continue until 18 February.
